Project Overview - Winter 2015
This 12-week project engaged Kindergarten and 1st grade students in learning about the natural phenomena of tides and the tidepool habitat. Students became experts through authentic field experiences, discussions with professionals, practicing purposeful scientific inquiry, and participating in the critique and revision process. Throughout this project, students developed essential reading, writing, math, collaborative, and technological skills to communicate their learning.
Click to learn about how First graders studied the natural phenomena that is responsible for creating the tidepools. By exploring the relationships and patterns between the Earth, Sun, Moon, and our Ocean, students reflected on the essential questions "How are tidepools natural treasures?" and "How can we teach others to explore responsibly"?
Click to learn about how Kindergarteners studied the tidepool habitat and the relationship between living and nonliving features in tidepools. Students asked, “What do animals need to survive?" And answered the essential question "How can we protect tidepool treasures and teach others about them?”
